About Gordon College

Gordon College is a liberal arts college located on the former Princemere estate in Wenham, which is a town in Essex County, in the US state of Massachusetts, with a small population of nearly 4500 inhabitants, according to the 2000 census.

Gordon College, also known as simply GC, was established in 1889, first starting as Gordon Bible Institute, being opened in Adoniram Judson Gordon's Baptist church basement, with the mission to train Christian missionaries for work in the Belgian Congo. In 1955, the collge was moved to its present location, and got its current name in 1985, when Barrington College of Rhode Island went bankrupt and merged into Gordon College.

Due to its Baptist heritage, Gordon is largely evangelical and Protestant, but it's not tied to one Christian denomination. The students are required to be professing Christians to attend the school, and faculty members are asked to sign that they agree with the college's own statement of faith.

The college offers BA, BM, BS, MAT, MEd, and MMEd degrees, as well as undergraduate degrees from 37 majors and 29 concentrations.

Athletics

Gordon's athletic teams are known as the Fighting Scots and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are navy blue and white.
